OVERVIEW
Titanium Alloy Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V), also known as TC4 titanium alloy, is the most widely used α-β dual-phase titanium alloy and is known as the "workhorse of titanium alloys". Its chemical composition is: about 90% titanium (Ti), 6% aluminum (Al), and 4% vanadium (V). Aluminum acts as an α-phase stabilizer to improve high-temperature strength, and vanadium acts as a β-phase stabilizer to improve toughness and processability. This composition design gives the alloy excellent comprehensive properties, making it a core position in aerospace, medical, industrial and other fields.

Chemical Composition & Mechanical Properties
Core advantages and characteristics
1. High strength and lightweight: The specific strength (strength/density) far exceeds that of steel and aluminum alloy, and it is a key material for aviation lightweighting
2. Excellent corrosion resistance: A dense oxide film is formed on the surface, which performs better than stainless steel in seawater, strong acid and strong alkali environments
3. Biocompatibility: No rejection reaction with human tissue, can be implanted in the body for a long time
4. Wide temperature range stability: Good mechanical properties are maintained from -253℃ to 600℃
Main application areas
1. Aerospace field
Accounting for 70% of the global titanium alloy consumption, it is mainly used for:
Aircraft engine turbine blades, combustion chambers
Fuselage frames, landing gear and other load-bearing structures
Rocket propulsion system components
2. Medical device field
Artificial hip and knee prostheses (with a service life of more than 15 years)
Dental implants, bone fixation screws
Interventional medical devices such as heart stents
3. Industry and high-end manufacturing
Chemical high-pressure vessels, corrosion-resistant pipelines
Marine engineering deep-sea exploration equipment
High-performance automobile engine exhaust system
Processing technology features
Smelting process: Vacuum consumable arc melting (VAR) is used to ensure purity, usually 2-3 meltings are required
Hot processing: Forging and rolling in the range of 500-700℃ are recommended to improve material plasticity
Heat treatment:
Annealing: 730-850℃ to eliminate stress and improve processing performance
Quenching and aging: 955-1010℃ quenching + 480-650℃ aging, greatly improving strength
Advanced manufacturing: Suitable for selective laser melting (SLM) 3D printing to achieve near-net forming of complex components
