Basic Overview

Monel 400 alloy steel pipe, also known as alloy 400 (UNS N04400), is a high-performance nickel-copper alloy, mainly composed of about 67% nickel and 23% copper, and contains a small amount of iron, manganese, silicon and other elements. It has excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical strength, and is widely used in many industrial fields. It can be produced according to different standards, such as American standard, national standard, etc. The product forms are diverse, in addition to steel pipes, there are steel bars, steel plates, steel strips, sleeves, flanges, forgings, rings, etc.

Performance characteristics

1. Physical properties: Density is 8.83g/cm³.

2. Mechanical properties: The minimum mechanical properties of the alloy at room temperature are as follows: tensile strength is 480MPa, yield strength is 170MPa, and elongation is 35%.

3. Corrosion resistance: It has excellent corrosion resistance in fluorine gas, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid and their derivatives; it is corrosion-resistant in sulfuric acid with a concentration of less than 85%; it is one of the very few important materials that can resist hydrofluoric acid; in most water corrosion conditions, it has excellent corrosion resistance, and pitting corrosion, stress corrosion, etc. are rarely found, and the corrosion rate is less than 0.025mm/a; the maximum temperature for continuous operation in air is generally around 600℃, and in high-temperature steam, the corrosion rate is less than 0.026mm/a; due to the high nickel content, it can resist corrosion under anhydrous ammonia and ammoniation conditions below 585℃.

Application fields

1. Marine engineering: Due to its excellent resistance to chloride ion stress corrosion cracking, it has become an ideal choice for manufacturing ship components, seawater treatment systems and other equipment exposed to seawater, and is widely used in shipbuilding, offshore platform construction and marine hardware manufacturing.

2. Chemical and petrochemical industries: It has excellent corrosion resistance to various organic acids, alkalis and salt solutions, especially in corrosive environments containing chlorides, and is suitable for the manufacture of chemical equipment such as chemical reactors, heat exchangers, valves, pumps and pipelines.

3. Oil and gas industry: It is extremely valuable in acidic gas and high-pressure systems, and is often used to manufacture pipelines, storage tanks and refinery components. It can also be used for a long time at temperatures up to 538°C. It is widely used in spiral pipes, heaters and other high-temperature components in petroleum refining and heating equipment.

4. Aerospace: It has high strength, high temperature resistance and harsh environment resistance, suitable for certain specific aerospace applications, can withstand high stress and extreme temperatures, and ensure the safety and reliability of equipment.

5. Other fields: In the field of medical devices, it is an ideal material for manufacturing medical equipment due to its excellent corrosion resistance and biocompatibility; in the food processing industry, it can resist corrosive media in the food processing process to ensure food safety and hygiene; it is also used in seamless water pipes and steam pipes in power plants, seawater exchangers and evaporators, crude oil distillation, pump shafts and propellers for equipment used in seawater, nuclear industry for the manufacture of uranium refining and isotope separation equipment, pumps and valves used in the manufacture of hydrochloric acid production equipment, etc.
